Terms of Service

Article 1 (Purpose)

These Terms set out the conditions and procedures for using the Joey service (the "Service") provided by Darak (the "Company"), as well as the rights, obligations, and responsibilities of members and the Company. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may stop using the Service.

Article 2 (Definitions)

  • Member: A person who has signed up using a Google account or email one-time password (OTP) to use the Service.
  • Block Owner: A member who creates and operates one or more blocks (a comment box or email subscription form). They act as the controller of the personal information collected through the blocks they operate.
  • Visitor: An unauthenticated user who leaves a comment or subscribes via an external web page that embeds a block.
  • Block: A unit of comment box or email subscription form embedded on external web pages. Each block has a unique identifier.
  • Response: A comment or reply left on a block by a visitor or member. Includes author name and content; emails for reply notifications are handled under a separate policy.
  • Subscriber: A visitor who has explicitly opted in to "Receive updates" for a block.
  • Anonymous identifier (joey_vid): A random UUID stored in the visitor's browser localStorage to temporarily distinguish unauthenticated visitors. It is not a cookie and is not linked to additional user information on the server.
  • Writer token: A short-lived JWT issued so unauthenticated visitors can edit or delete their own responses.

Article 3 (Posting and Amendment of These Terms)

We post these Terms on the Service or at joey.team at all times. When we amend the Terms, changes unfavorable to members are announced via the site or email at least 30 days before the application date; other changes are announced at least 7 days in advance.

If you do not agree to the amended Terms, you can express refusal by withdrawing your membership. If you continue using the Service after the application date, you are deemed to have agreed to the amended Terms.

Article 4 (Accounts and Sign-up)

  1. Membership sign-up is done via Google account login or email OTP verification.
  2. Agreeing to these Terms is required to sign up; agreeing to marketing communications is optional. Required and optional consents are presented separately, and declining the optional consent does not affect sign-up.
  3. Members must provide accurate information and are responsible for storing and using their account credentials. If you become aware of unauthorized access to your account, you must notify us immediately.
  4. The minimum age to use the Service is 13. Children under 14 must obtain consent from a legal guardian.

Article 5 (Content of the Service)

  1. We provide embeddable comment boxes and email subscription forms for external web pages, response and subscriber dashboards, CSV/XLSX export of response and subscriber lists, and email notifications for comments, replies, and export completion.
  2. Members can adjust their own settings such as language, theme, and notification preferences.
  3. We may temporarily suspend part or all of the Service for system maintenance, incident response, or policy changes. We announce significant changes in advance.
  4. We provide a Free plan and a paid Pro plan. Matters related to payment, recurring billing, cancellation, and refund are governed by Article 6 and Article 7.

Article 6 (Payment and Recurring Billing for Paid Services)

  • Paid plan: The Pro plan is priced at KRW 7,900 per month or KRW 79,000 per year (both including VAT). The billing currency is Korean Won (KRW). Members can review the plan details and the amount on the checkout page, agree to these Terms, and proceed to payment.
  • Payment methods: The Pro plan accepts credit and debit cards issued by Korean card networks. Payments are processed by our payment processor, Toss Payments Co., Ltd. (the "Processor").
  • Recurring billing: The Pro plan is provided on a recurring billing basis. Once the member completes card registration, the Processor issues and stores the recurring billing token (billing key); we store only masked payment information such as card brand, the last 4 digits, and the payment method type. The full card number and billing key are not stored by us.
  • Billing cycle: Charges are billed automatically on the same day of each month based on the initial billing date. If the corresponding day does not exist in a given month, the charge is made on the last day of that month.
  • Failed payments: If a payment fails, we may retry the charge for a limited period and notify the member by email. If the payment is not successfully processed after the notice period, the subscription is canceled automatically and access to Pro features is suspended.
  • Receipts: Payment history is available in the billing tab of the settings screen. Card payment receipts are provided by the issuing card company.

Article 7 (Cancellation and Refund)

  • Cancellation: Members may cancel the Pro plan at any time directly from the billing section of the settings screen. There are no early-termination penalties or cancellation fees.
  • Use after cancellation: Upon cancellation, recurring billing stops at the next billing date. The member retains access to Pro features until the end of the billing period that has already been paid for, and the account automatically reverts to the Free plan after that period.
  • Refund policy: We do not provide pro-rated refunds for unused days within a paid billing period. Due to the nature of digital content services, once a member has used any Pro feature within a paid billing period, that period is non-refundable. This corresponds to a permitted limitation on withdrawal under Article 17(2)(5) of the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce. Members are asked to separately acknowledge this refund policy on the checkout page before payment.
  • Cases eligible for refund: We will refund a payment by canceling the card transaction through the Processor in any of the following cases: (a) the member did not use any Pro feature after payment and requests a refund within 7 business days; (b) the member is unable to use the Service due to causes attributable to us; or (c) duplicate charges occurred for the same billing period due to a payment-system error. Refunds are typically reflected on the card statement within 3 to 7 business days, subject to the card company's policies.
  • Cases where refunds may be limited: If we restrict, suspend, or terminate the Service due to a member's violation of these Terms or applicable laws, refunds may be limited.
  • How to request a refund: Refund requests can be sent to hello@joey.team along with information that allows us to verify the requesting member (the email used at sign-up).

Article 8 (Status and Responsibilities of Block Owners)

  1. Block owners are responsible for securing the appropriate notice, consent, and legal basis for any personal information collection and use that occurs on the web pages where their blocks are embedded.
  2. We process comment and subscriber data collected through blocks within the scope necessary for delivering the Service — storage, delivery, and notification sending — according to the owner's instructions. Under regulations such as the GDPR, the owner acts as the data controller and we act as the processor.
  3. We are not responsible for the legality, accuracy, or reliability of the content that owners publish or manage; any resulting disputes are resolved directly by the owner.

Article 9 (Principles for Handling Visitor Comments and Subscriptions)

  1. Visitors may leave comments without logging in, subject to the block's settings. An email is collected at comment time only when the visitor wishes to receive reply notifications.
  2. Reply-notification email and "Receive updates" marketing consent are provided as separate checkboxes that are not pre-checked. Consenting to one does not imply consent to the other.
  3. The email used for reply notifications is not used for any purpose other than sending notifications, and is never shown in the owner dashboard or any export.
  4. Only when a visitor explicitly opts in to "Receive updates" is their email shown in the relevant block owner's dashboard. The sender of marketing communications is the individual block owner; we do not send advertising messages directly. Owners are responsible for compliance with advertising disclosure and opt-out requirements under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.

Article 10 (Member Obligations and Prohibited Conduct)

Members and visitors must not engage in any of the following.
  • Using the Service in a manner that violates laws or public order and morals, or that infringes on the rights of others
  • Misappropriating others' personal information such as accounts, emails, or payment methods
  • Reverse engineering, decompiling, or attempting to circumvent the security of the Service
  • Abnormal access or load generation via crawlers, bots, or automation scripts
  • Posting obscene, violent, or discriminatory content, or infringing third-party rights such as copyright
  • Violating the terms or policies of external sites on which blocks are embedded

Article 11 (Data Ownership and Licensing)

  1. Block owners retain the rights to the response and subscriber data collected through their own blocks. We do not claim ownership of such data.
  2. Members grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, and transmit that data to the extent necessary to provide, maintain, secure, back up, and send notifications for the Service. We will not use the data beyond this scope.
  3. We currently do not send user data to external LLM/AI services, nor do we use it to train any models. If we introduce AI-powered features in the future, we will do so only after amending and announcing these Terms and the Privacy Policy in advance.
  4. We retain de-identified statistics such as usage and error logs that cannot identify individuals, and may use them for quality improvement and security purposes.

Article 12 (Termination and Sanctions)

  1. Members may withdraw at any time via the "Delete account" section of the settings screen after re-confirming their email. Upon withdrawal, the member's account and all associated blocks, responses, subscribers, and export files are permanently deleted in a non-recoverable manner immediately, with no grace period. Items required to be retained by applicable laws are stored separately and destroyed upon expiration of the retention period.
  2. If a member provides false information or violates these Terms or applicable laws, we may restrict, suspend, or terminate use of the Service without prior notice. We are not liable for any resulting damages unless caused by our intent or gross negligence.

Article 13 (Limitation of Liability)

We are not liable for damages arising from causes beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, communications outages, and failures of external providers (cloud, email, etc.).

We are not liable for damages arising from use beyond the intended functional scope of the Service, configuration errors by members or owners, or inaccuracies in information provided by visitors, unless caused by our intent or gross negligence. Liability for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages is limited to the same extent.

Article 14 (Governing Law and Jurisdiction)

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the competent court under the Civil Procedure Act (the Seoul Central District Court as the court of first instance, absent special circumstances such as overseas residence).

Members who signed up before April 24, 2026 will be asked to re-agree to these Terms at their next login.
